Soulrocklove is the child of the Blues and a cousin to HipHop.  Think Van Hunt, Ben Harper, The Black Keys, etc.  We want to continue in this vein with those who have yet to be "discovered"  or at least garner a bit less mainstream attention.  This is a grassroots  movement, a network, a vibe/genre, a community, a scene...  Get onboard!  At it's core this initiative is focused on bringing together Neo-Soul heads & Indie Rock fans to do what they do best  - share music.  Check out the artists mentioned on the page and our Myspace friends, many of which are artists and friends and fam of artists.  Register, become a friend, check some tunes, spread the love!

I've spent a lot of time recently thinking about the state of the Music Industry.  It seems to be falling apart and forging ahead at the same time.  I love that today you can basically put together an entire album in your spare bedroom and upload it for the world to hear.  What's harder is getting the world to care.  I long for that communal spirit of musicians hanging out, jamming, swapping tunes, and so on.  Not to get off on a revivalist rant, but I hope that spirit finds its place in this digital age.  Hopefully SOULROCKLOVE.COM can play a part in doing so.  We welcome you to join this conversation.  What are your thoughts?????            RESPOND HERE!

It goes without saying that both Rock and Soul have extensive histories that have often been intertwined.    It's also very often complicated by race, demographics, etc.  It's amazing how Gospel, Blues, and Country very often carried the same sentiments, but what differed was the audience.  In that same vein, Soul and Rock share some characteristics including their origins.  At their roots both are the next steps after the Blues.  It is no coincidence that this site was designed in the colors black, white, and blue.  It is meant to be symbol of bringing races together and also giving a nod to the Blues to which immeasurable influence must be attributed.

Prince, Marc Broussard, Lenny Kravitz, Cat Power, Ben Harper & Innocent Criminals, & Janelle Monet

Really can't say enough about the Black Keys.  These guys somehow add a modern touch to classic Blues Rock.

Got excited to hear some rare unreleased material from Mr. Van Hunt.  Check out new album at www.vanhunt.com/

Terrence Howard - Shine Through It -  Preview Here

Lucinda Williams - Little Honey - Preview Here

Booker T - Potato Hole
Got to see this legend a little over a year ago backing up Sharon Jones.  It's just awesome that he's still at it.  The album includes a cover of Andree 3000's "Hey Ya" and features plenty of crunchy guitars and of course Booker's famous organ stylings.

Live Music

BooBooCousins recently blessed the 92Y Tribeca Cafe, NYC with his beautiful melodies and heartfelt lyrics.  If you have the chance check him out live and visit his page booboocousins.com/ . Be sure to check out tunes "Daybreak" and "The Way She Moved."  Also stay tuned for new album, Say Something Beautiful.

Bilal gracing the stage with vocal voodoo and avant-garde grooves at Southpaw, Brooklyn NY.

Martin Luther at S.O.B.'s.  My man's new material is incredible and he puts on a hell of a live show.  He is the embodiment of soulrocklove!

Those Funky Divas, Envogue, reunited and didn't miss a note at B.B. Kings recently.

Zhen Music aka Taz playing live at Leela Lounge NYC.  Amazing guitarist with  stunning interpretations of some classics as well as beautiful originals.

Saw Mr. Jay Collins (below)  and his band recently at the Blue Note as part of their Latenight Groove Series.  Let's just say he and his band create insanely beautiful music steeped in lyric and funk.  If Leon Russell, Joe Cocker, and Randy Newman had an orgy that could produce an offspring then baptized the baby in groove, it would be this guy!  Check him out at

Robert Payne visiting from the UK.  Very refresing, don't hear much slide guitar or  see many resonators these days!

Caught the cat below, Lee, at BAM Cafe.  Very nice blend of jazz, pulsating grooves, and orchestral elements with smooth vocals.  Check him out at  whoislee.com

Took the pic below a while back when I had the distinct privilege of witnessing Jill Scott perform live.  DO NOT miss her performing live if you have the opportunity.  Her vocal versatility, power, and control are astounding.  She is easily one of the top female vocalists of all times.

Took the pic below at a  N.E.R.D show.  These cats are so high energy it's insane.  Their melding of  hip-hop, rock, soul, etc. is beyond refreshing.  Highly recommended!

It was an absolute delight to catch legend and pioneer, Les Paul, at the Iridium Jazz Club.  He was 93 years old at the time of the show and still at it.  He was truly a road warrior, having recording much of his body of work while touring over many years.  His onstage banter was an adorable throwback to the lounge acts of yesteryear but was overwhelmingly surpassed by his virtuoso guitar work and legendary presence. He will be missed incredibly!

Robin Thicke recently at Madison Square Garden. On stage, this guy continues to deliver blue-eyed soul slathered in sultry innuendo while simultaneously giving a nod to his predecessors. Awesome Band! Amazing Show!
